Let’s celebrate going back to school by making a cute Dollar Tree apple craft!
If your kids like to decorate for back to school then this apple craft will be a fun project you and your children will enjoy making together.
It would be so cute to hang it in the homeschooling area of your home, or you can give it to a teacher on the first day of school.

Before we get into how to make the Dollar Tree apple craft…. it’s time for another monthly “Under 10 on the 10th” blog hop. I’ve joined with a group of creative bloggers to share our back to school ideas with you that cost less than $10 to make. Be sure to visit their links located after my project.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- $9.62 total cost
- apple sign ~ Dollar Tree ~ $1.25
- craft paint (white, red, black) ~ Walmart ~ $.54 each
- crayons ~ Walmart ~ $.50
- ribbon ~ Dollar Tree ~ $1.25 each x 4
- paint brushes variety pack ~ Dollar Tree ~ $1.25
- hot glue or gorilla glue
- scissors
- pencil
Supplies can be purchased at the Dollar Tree and Walmart to make this apple tree craft for under $10.00. The assumption is made that you already have glue, scissors and a pencil.
I ended up not including the stencil (seen above) in the supply list because I didn’t like it as it was too sticky and pulled at the paint.
Also, the spacing of the letters, painting, and drying/curing just seemed like it was going to be too aggravating and time-consuming.
Read in my tutorial how I used the “old school method” for transferring “Welcome Back” to my Dollar Tree apple craft. This is a good option for those that don’t have a Cricut.
HOW TO MAKE A BACK TO SCHOOL APPLE CRAFT
STEP 1: PAINT THE APPLE
Paint the apple with 4 coats of white. Leave the stem black. I made an oops and painted mine red.
Use red paint to paint the outer section of the apple with 3 coats.
TIP: Use a hair dryer or heating tool to speed up drying time in between coats.
STEP 2: ADD “WELCOME BACK”
Like I said earlier, I didn’t like the stencil so I used the “old school method” of transferring the phrase:
- choose font in a word document
- print your ‘Welcome Back’
- rub pencil on the back side over each letter
- place the word on the apple and tape in place
- trace over the letters with pencil
- the phrase should faintly show on the apple
- paint the letters black
STEP 4: MAKE A MESSY BOW
Use at least 3 different ribbons and cut each strip 6 inches long.
Layer the ribbon strips in an “X” shape and alternate each color/pattern.
Cinch the center by tying a strip of ribbon in the center 2 to 3 times. Trim ribbon ends at an angle and also where too long.
STEP 5: ATTACH THE BOW AND CRAYONS
I used a hot glue gun to attach the bow and crayons, but you can use Tacky Glue or Gorilla Glue, which Dollar Tree sells.
I hope you enjoy making this Dollar Tree apple craft or get some inspiration to put your own spin on the Dollar Tree apple shape. Let me know in the comment section below if you plan to make this project!

This is so cute! I think teacher’s would love to hang this on their doors! I have an apple left over from my split letter monogram that I gave my son’s teachers last year. This would be a great way to use it. Pinned!
