DIY Farmhouse Flower Arrangement

Learn how easy it is to make this DIY farmhouse flower arrangement from start to finish!

To begin with, I gave a thrift store basket a minor makeover. I think the grapevine basket helps give the spring arrangement a rustic or country style farmhouse vibe.

Don’t you just love the unique grapevine design of the basket? You can find a plethora of different kinds of baskets when thrifting so be on the lookout!

Salvia and lavender flowers always come to mind when I think of farmhouse style so I definitely wanted to include stems from one of those plants.

I also wanted to add a spring accent color to make the arrangement pop. Since there are so many springy colors that would compliment the purple blooms the substitutions are endless.

The best thing about using faux flowers in arrangements is that they stay “fresh” forever, right?!

Let’s get started with the tutorial!

  • 1 multi-style greenery bush
  • 1 leaf greenery bush

I chose coral peonies, lavender, and a multi-greenery bush that included ivory flowers. The basket was spray painted with Rust-oleum paint & primer in Fossil Satin.

HOW TO MAKE A FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

I used wire cutter snips to cut off each stem as indicated below.

individual flower stems for the flower arrangement

Place your styrofoam block in the bottom of the basket and add moss.

For my type of basket, I had to make sure the moss covered all evidence of the styrofoam blocks.

Start pushing the stems into your blocks, spacing them to cover the entire area.

Vary your greenery stems so no two alike are next to each other.

The leaf greenery is next to be inserted. I used the leaves from a grapevine bush that I had on hand.

Stick the leaf stems at the base of the greenery stems so sparse areas are filled in.

Place the lavender stems so they are evenly distributed among your greenery. I shaped the stems, where needed, if they looked too “plastic perfect.”

Insert the peony stems near the base of the greenery. Don’t make the placement too perfect and be sure to shape stems where needed.

Open up some of the bloom petals more than others so they don’t all look perfect and exactly the same.

Once this is done, you’ve completed your arrangement!
