My Dollar Tree makeover for winter decor turned out to be quite a transformation.
Let me show you how to totally change a $1.25 sled sign into a beautiful wall hanging to decorate your home for winter!
Follow along and see how I made this happen!
DOLLAR TREE MAKEOVER FOR WINTER DECOR
Recently, I was searching for winter decor ideas that could be used for after Christmas decorating.
I was on the Kirkland’s Home website and spotted a that I thought was so pretty.
It was still a bit pricey even on sale, so I decided to replicate a similar look but for a much cheaper price.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Dollar Tree sign
- white chalk paint
- light brown craft paint
- white craft paint
- paint brush
- artist paint brush
- hot glue gun
- pine greenery
- frosted greenery
- white floral pick
- small ornaments
- sand paper
- wire snips
HOW TO MAKE DOLLAR TREE WINTER DECOR
1 – PREPARE AND PAINT THE SLED
Sand the sled, especially the areas with the glitter.
Paint three coats of white paint covering the front and sides of the sled.
Water down the light brown paint and mix together. I made it into a “soupy” mixture. Use a soft artist paint to paint the sled.
While the paint is still wet, mix white paint with the soupy mix and make white streaks and blend them on the sled.
2 – ATTACH THE GREENERY
Use wire snips to take apart the greenery. Hot glue the pine stems in the center, attach the white stems, then glue pieces of the frosty greenery on the top.
3 – ATTACH THE ORNAMENTS AND RIBBON
Hot glue on small ornaments in the center of the arrangement.
Tie on a piece of ribbon for a hanger.

Allyson, this is a wonderful project for Christmas. The sled is perfect for a front door. Love the combo of greens, whites and ornaments!
Hugs,
Rachelle
Rachelle thank you! My color scheme ended up matching other home decor that I had forgotten about, so I plan to make a winter vignette.
You did a wonderful job with this makeover! I absolutely LOVE the greenery and green ornaments you added (green is my favorite color). I would definitely hang this on my wall! Pinnned!
Thanks, T’onna. So glad you like my sled!
This sled is so pretty! I love your color choices! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
Thank you, Marci! So nice winter hopping with you.
This is so cute! It’s perfect for all winter since it doesn’t have any red on it. Great upcycle for $1.25!
Thanks, Niki! I like that I’ll be able to keep my sled displayed through the winter season.
There is nothing more wintery than a gorgeous sled, Allyson! You really knocked this one out of the park! I love how you decorated the sled with the warm green and white colors of the greenery and ornaments!
Thank you for the compliments on my winter sled, Gail!
I really like the soft green ornaments with the greenery background. Total win. Pinning.
Michele, I got lucky finding ornaments to match so closely to that shade of greenery. Thank you for pinning!
I love this! It’s perfect for winter decor. The greenery looks lovely against the sled. What a great DT makeover!
I’m so glad you like my sled makeover, Beverly. Thank you!
I love your sled decoration, such a bargain make! I did click through to check out the one that inspired you and I see why you didn’t snap it up, definitely a little bit pricey! Your version is just as lovely and a fraction of the price – win win!
Julie, yay, I’m happy you like my version of the Kirkland’s sleigh. I was going to use their colors, but all the poinsettia florals were cleaned out in my town, but I love how my green turned out.
