Spring Mantel Decor using Thrift Store Finds

I completed my spring mantel decor using thrift store items a couple of weeks ago, and I was excited that I was able to use items that I already had on hand which also included some Goodwill finds.

My home decor colors do not coordinate with pastels that you typically think of for Easter, so I decided to skip decorating for Easter and concentrate on spring. The pop of rose color I used for my spring mantel is the closest I can get to a soft color.

For decorating in the odd numbers rule, I chose to use five round objects in the photo above. I think the angular pattern in the plate adds enough interest to break up the “roundness.”

I purchased the vase for $2.00 from Goodwill with plans to change the color with spray paint, but the vase ended up matching the flowers I already had so no color change needed.

The sticker on the bottom indicated it was from a Christmas decor collection. It has a 90’s look but I still like it.

The iron candle holder was an awesome find!

It’s very heavy and I like the unique look. Paying $7.00 was way more than I really wanted to spend, but I thought it was a good quality piece plus a percentage of the money went towards supporting a cat shelter organization.

I was going to spray it with an oil rubbed bronze paint, but decided I liked the rough look.

I found the round plate about the same time I was pulling together my items intended for decorating my spring mantel. For only $1.00, I took the chance that the plate would match my flowers, and it ended up blending perfectly.

The framed decor is a spring printable that I made several weeks ago. You can download and print it for free. I purchased a “special buy” frame from Walmart for $4.00 (update 2024 – those frames are no longer sold.) The print has a very nice verse from a spring poem written by Margaret Elizabeth Stangster.

I’ve had all the greenery and flowers for years and they were purchased at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and A.C. Moore when it was still in business.

I purchased the mirror from Kirkland’s last year for $12.50. So cheap, right!? I got lucky when the store accidentally left their old signs up from a 40% off wall decor sale, plus the store still let me use a coupon.

The two individual metal candlesticks, with the boxwood balls, were purchased about 15 years ago at Big Lots.

The only thing I ended having to buy for the mantel were the three cream candles for the candle holder. I purchased them at Walmart for $2.00 each.

Hopefully, I inspired you to start decorating using thrift store finds. It’s fun to go thrifting and find a hidden treasure!

  2. Ooh very pretty. I like the printable you made; it looks wonderful in the frame. I think decorating for Spring as opposed to Easter is a nice idea. You can keep it up longer too!

    1. Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it! I’m taking a break this week from parties so I can finish my new projects, so I’ll see you next week. 🙂

  3. Although I love spring pastels, I love your brighter colors. I am a color person, and the farmhouse neutrals with counters so sterile that you could do surgery on them just don’t appeal to me! The candlestick in front of the mirror doubles it so nicely-bet is gorgeous lit, too! Have you tried overturning the red vase yet to use as a candlestick with a fat pillar candle (Valentine’s, patriotic holidays, and Christmas? I love mixing vintage, thrifted, and new stuff together; you did an awesome job!

    1. I gravitate more to warmer colors versus the popular grays. My craft room is the exact opposite with bright and bold colors. The vase is a newer thrift find so I haven’t experimented using it in different settings. Great idea to turn it over with a candle! Thanks for visiting!

  5. Allyson, your spring mantel is perfect. I love the pops of the rose-color in you vase, plate, and flowers. The candle stand was an excellent find. All of your elements combine for a fresh spring mantel! Stay well.

  7. How beautiful ! Your mantel is so happy and warm it makes me smile, and it sure evokes Spring.

  8. Very pretty. I’ve always thought you should decorate in a way that brings you joy not in a color scheme that is dictated by others. I can see this being something cheerful to look at when you come into the room. You can leave it out past Easter if you choose which is an additional advantage.

  9. Your mantle looks so pretty, and what wonderful, thrifted treasures you found! The plate is so pretty and goes so well with the flowers and the vase. The sin goes well with your whole spring theme.
Thank you so much for your visit to my blog.
