Would you like to know how to decorate a mantel on a budget? If you said yes then follow along as I lead you through what I used for my frugal fall mantel decor.
Get ready for some inexpensive fall inspiration!
First of all, keep in mind that every single item you use on your mantel doesn’t have to be fall related.
For example, the vase I used on the mantel has a rooster motif and the large wall art isn’t specifically fall either. However, both of them have the rich colors of fall so that’s what makes it all work out in the end.

WHERE TO FIND CHEAP FALL DECOR FOR A MANTEL
1. SHOP DISCOUNT STORES
Shopping Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar or Walmart are cheap places to find fall flowers and foliage picks and floral bushes. All my fall picks/bushes came from the Dollar Tree.
I already had on hand some older foliage that was a little better quality and I just added a bunch of the cheap stuff to it and I think it all turned out great.
The burnt orange Chrysanthemums, small cream flowers, and leaf picks were all purchased at the Dollar Tree.
2. SHOP SECOND HAND STORES
Items found at thrift stores or consignment stores are perfect for finding inexpensive fall decor that can be incorporated when decorating your mantel. Think vases, candle sticks, figurines, frames or wall art.
I found my frame at a thrift store and I love the whimsical look with the flat marbles attached. It only cost me $2.00!
3. USE FREE FALL PRINTABLES
I found a nice looking free fall printable from Chrissy at Teepee Girl. I tested the printable using card stock and then photo paper. The one I printed on photo paper is the one I used because the colors looked a lot richer versus on the card stock.
UPDATE 2023: I have a new autumn sunflower free printable that I made that looks great propped on a mantel, displayed as side table decor, or hung as wall art. Make sure you check it out!
4. SHOP CRAFT STORE SALES
The small sculpted pumpkin was purchased at Michael’s at a 50% sale for only $5.00. (Update 2023 – prices have increased so you’ll want to wait for a larger percentage off.)
My boxwood spheres were purchased either at JoAnn’s or Michael’s on a sale for $5.00 each. I thought that was a splurge! I’ll be using them year round so I think they ended up being a good investment.
5. USE WHAT YOU HAVE ON HAND
I incorporated decor that I already had on hand to help save on my budget. The artwork and rooster vase I’ve had quite a while. The candlesticks were purchased many years ago at Big Lots and the leaf plate was purchased at a Kohl’s sale years ago.
HOW TO MAKE MY SIMPLE CANDLESTICK DECOR
I simply placed the boxwood spheres on top of the candlestick sharp pin. I then cut the flower stems off of the Chrysanthemum bush and stuck them under and around my greenery balls. I love how they look on the candlesticks!
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I incorporated bargain finds into my frugal fall mantel decorating. Do you ever shop thrift stores or the Dollar Tree for your home decor?
