Do you love summer cookouts but dislike the heat? I’ve made free 4th of July printable fans that you can print out and make into hand fans.
They will help you show your American spirit and surely help you beat some of the heat. Maybe you can swat a few mosquitoes, too!
FREE 4TH OF JULY PRINTABLE FANS
My patriotic project will cost less than $10.00 for 4 fans, depending on which of the two ways the hand fans are made (see the 2 options further down.)
I got the designs printed at Staples for 75 cent each and the craft paint was on sale at Hobby Lobby for about a $1.00 each. UPDATE 2024 – prices may have increased.
I already had the stir sticks, foam paint brush, and glue on hand, but you can get those supplies at the Dollar Store if needed.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- 4 to 8 laser prints on 110 lb. cardstock
- 4 paint stir sticks
- red craft paint
- foam paint brush
- scissors or paper cutter
- craft glue
- sturdy glue
- navy craft paint ~ optional
- dot tool ~ optional
- white cardstock ~ optional
HOW TO MAKE 4TH OF JULY HAND FANS
STEP 1: Download the PDF designs to a thumb drive and have your office supply store laser print on 110lb cardstock. From your downloads, you can also download the PDF files to an office supply website, such as Staples, and place an order then pick up at the store.
STEP 2: After cutting out the designs, use craft glue to join the papers together.
STEP 3: Use a foam brush to paint the wood stir sticks with red craft paint.
STEP 4: Attach the stir stick to one side using a sturdy glue such as E-6000.
TWO OPTIONS TO JOIN THE HAND FANS:
- Glue two printed designs back to back or…
- Glue one design to a white sheet of cardstock
If you choose to only use one design and one white sheet, use a dot tool or the end of a pencil eraser to dot the white side with navy paint so it doesn’t look so plain on that side. This is how I completed my fans.

So cute, Allyson and I sure could use them for mosquitos around here!
Glad you like my fans, Ann! Mosquitos, flies, you name it ~ they’ll be good swatters. LOL
Allyson, really fun idea with your patriotic printables turning them into fans!!! It’s just beginning to turn hot here in North Central Texas and even at 90 degrees, it’s a bit unbearable for this former Californian who is used to a lot less humidity with heat, lol! I think we all need a fan or two, to keep in our purses, in the car. Really fun idea!!! <3
Enjoy your fans and happy summertime to you,
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
Glad you like the fan idea, Barbara! I’ve lived in 4 southern states and that humidity can be unbearable, for sure. I’ve visited CA once and the weather was heaven! Happy to summer to you, also. 🙂

Allyson how clever are you? Such a great idea. Goodness knows with the 96% humidity here we need those fans and not for just the 4th of July! I love this idea and really you could make them for any time of the year. Pining and thanks for sharing!
Yes, the humidity will get us, for sure. Glad you like my fans and thanks for pinning!
